ABOUT CONTACTO

Contacto is a trainee programme, designed for the university community. It aims to identify and select young talented finalists of a master’s or bachelor’s degree (or recent graduates) to do a traineeship within one of the Sonae Companies.

ACCESS TO THE BEST LEADERS

A good leader can be the most impactful driver in your career. At Sonae, you will have the best leadership experience because you will not only be recruited by Business Leaders, as you will also have the opportunity of working in close contact with them during the whole internship.

DEVELOP AMBIDEXTROUS SKILLS

You will develop ambidextrous skills by learning not only to execute a function but also to master collaboration. During the programme you will be challenged to solve/develop a strategic project for Sonae.

BUILD INTERNAL NETWORK

Access to a vast internal network of people through the programme alumni. You will have several moments to connect, develop relationships, work and learn together and these will accelerate the learning process and the dissemination of your talent within the company.

Rules

1. Introduction

Contacto Trainee Programme Challenge 2019 is a challenge run by Sonae Companies as part of the Contacto Programme, with the aim of attracting and selecting intrapreneurs to be part of the 2019 Contacto Trainees.

An Intrapreneur is someone who:

  • Is like a greenhouse, constantly germinating ideas in their mind
  • Knows how to pivot and is not afraid to fail or change course
  • Behaves authentically and with integrity
  • Is a self-starter and a problem-solver
  • Is passionate and growth-driven

Participants are challenged to share who they are, their ideas and interests, things they would like to learn and what they can teach, without any restrictions of what these ideas and lessons are about. The goal is for them to show they are able to learn from experiences, situations and people who cross their path and inspire them to generate innovative ideas.

The assessment of the challenge will value:

  • Curiosity and creativity;
  • Intrapreneurial spirit
  • The ability to learn from and teach others
  • Functional and cultural fit

These aspects will be more valued than Academic Background.

Final year undergraduate and/or Master´s students, as well as recent graduates should apply individually, showing their unique experience and perspective about the world we live in.

Contacto Trainee Programme 2019 will be implemented and delivered in English. All candidates are responsible for their level of English and that their participation in this process using this language is possible.

2. Participants

Contacto Trainee Programme 2019 is designed for final year Undergraduate or Master´s students of any subject from national and international universities. Recent graduates who finished their studies in the academic year of 2017/2018 are also eligible.

You should also have:

  • No more than 2 years of professional experience.
  • Proficiency in English, enabling relationships and day-to-day activities.
3. Registration

Participants must apply individually.

Step 1 - Register - Registration should be completed until March 17th, via registration on the Contacto Trainee Programme website (www.sonaecontacto.com), where each participant must complete his/her profile and upload his/her photo and CV in English (in PDF format) to be considered eligible.

Step 2 – The CV must contain the expected final grade (CV counts for 50%).

Step 3 – Submit “Are you an Intrapreneur?” challenge (application’s creativity and innovation counts for 50%) - Candidates will have to upload a PRESENTATION (powerpoint, keynote or pdf format). The idea is to be sent in DIGITAL FORMAT only, and must not exceed 10MB.

Applications lacking any of the elements mentioned in these rules or whose participants work for the Sonae Companies, will not be considered by the organizing committee or the competition jury.

4. Phases and step-by-step assessment

Phase 1 | Registration – March 1st – March 17th

During this phase, each participant should register and upload the materials specified in the previous bullet point (3. Registration).

The members of the jury from Sonae Companies will assess applications and select the participants for the next round of the Contacto Trainee Programme 2019.

The participants proceeding to the next round will have a phone call interview.

Those selected for the Assessment Day will be notified by email until March 27th.

Phase 2 | Assessment Day – April 3rd

  • Dynamics

On the Assessment Day, each participant will be invited to participate in four moments:

  • SONAE PITCHES
    Business Presentations about the Sonae World
     
  • INDIVIDUAL PITCHES
    Candidates present themselves and share what “Intrapreneurial spirit” means to them
     
  • GROUP DYNAMICS
    Candidates are challenged to collaborate to solve dilemmas in a short period of time
     
  • SPEED INTERVIEWS
    Private one-on-one moment between Business Leaders and Candidates

The work carried out during the day will be observed and commented on by the Sonae teams.

Following this day, Candidates will share the Contacto Team a TOP 10 of Business Leaders, by order of preference, they’d like to work with and Business Leaders will share their TOP 10 Candidates. Afterwards, a matching process will be deployed.

Sonae will indicate which participants will be selected for traineeships and advance to the final phase of the Contacto Trainee Programme 2019. Sonae cannot guarantee that the company is the same one assigned in the challenge phase or that it is possible to respect the first choice of the candidate.

Sonae will inform finalists awarded with a Contacto Traineeship in one of the Sonae Companies by the end of April. Selected participants for a Contacto Traineeship will be notified by email.

Phase 3 | Contacto Day: May 30th

  • Dynamics

During Contacto Day, the final phase of the Contacto Trainee Programme 2019, the selected Contacto Trainees will have the opportunity to meet again their Business Leaders and new team at Sonae – people from Sonae companies with whom they will work through their Traineeship, as well as Sonae Companies Top Management.

5. Jury

The jury will be composed of a diverse group of Sonae members, thus ensuring the appropriate assessment of the criteria mentioned above.

6. Traineeships

Around 50 Contacto Traineeships in Sonae companies will be awarded as part of the Contacto Trainee Programme 2019. According to the assessments made during the competition, and taking into consideration the quality of the participants, more traineeships may be offered.

7. Intellectual property

Sonae will be entitled to the free use of the ideas, concepts and developments elaborated as part of the challenge and participants waive all claims on eventual rights.

8. Responsibility

In case of unforeseen circumstances or force majeure, Sonae companies cannot be held responsible for the cancellation, postponement or alterations made to the competition.

Should the rules be broken, or in the event of any unforeseen or unavoidable circumstances with repercussions for the fairness or integrity of the competition, the organizing committee reserves the right to cancel, alter or suspend the competition.

This right is reserved for the case of unforeseen circumstances of a human nature as well as those involving technical errors.

Should a solution which acceptably re-establishes the competition’s integrity not be found, the organizing committee also reserves the right to choose the candidates to be awarded Contact Traineeships, bearing in mind the assessment carried out until the point of cancellation, or to alter or suspend the competition at any stage.

Should there be any illegitimate attempt to influence results, or any reason to believe that a participant could be compromising the integrity of the competition, the jury reserves the right to disqualify the participant and ban him/her from any future event organized by Sonae Companies.

9. Exclusion

The Contacto Trainee Programme 2019 organizing committee reserves the right to exclude proposals submitted during the competition.

10. Acceptance of the regulations

Participation in the Contacto Trainee Programme 2019 implies the full acceptance of the terms and conditions stipulated in this document.

11. Concession of image rights

Participants agree to the free concession of rights to use their image captured in photos or film footage during the competition. They also authorize their reproduction, publication, alteration, use or re-use in the national and international media which the Sonae Companies might use, directly or indirectly, via third parties, to publicize, announce or promote their activities and this or other events.

12. Notes

Consideration of omissions not dealt with in these terms and conditions is the responsibility of the organizing committee for the Contacto Trainee Programme 2019.

In the case of omissions in these terms and conditions the organizing committee will be responsible for deliberating the procedures.
